Yin Yoga Teacher Training (20 CEUs)

Nurture yourself with a weekend yoga intensive, where you can retreat from the daily hustle and bustle to dive deep into the wisdom of yoga. This RYT 300 level workshop is designed for committed students as well as yoga teachers. It's a 20 hour weekend immersion that stretches us physically, emotionally and mentally as a catalyst for holistic growth and renewal. The group bonding and the intensive format can be transformative.

Yin Yoga has become one of the most popular styles of yoga today, with many yoga studios now offering yin classes to balance their (yang) programs. Yin is in! Yin yoga has a distinct pace, physiology, and philosophy, as well as unique postures. It is restorative and invigorating; it has a meditative and healing quality; and it is well suited for both beginners as well as advanced practitioners.  By passively stretching muscles, yin yoga effectively remolds the fascia and connective tissue, thereby directly improving posture, joint mobility, breathing, athletic performance, recovery from injury, and healthy aging.

Even though Yin Yoga as a distinct style emerged in the West only recently, its roots go back to the classical Yoga of India and the qigong tradition of ancient China. This workshop introduces the theory and practice of Yin Yoga in order to better understand and embody its profound principles.

Topics include the history & philosophy of yin yoga; the restorative/gentle/dynamic continuum; anatomy & physiology of yin yoga; health benefits of yin; creative use of props; postures and sequences of yin asanas; yin pranayama and meditation; legs-up-the-wall; yoga nidra; sound baths; and teaching yin yoga. (Part 2 will also include standing yin & qigong; dynamic yin postures; 5 element theory & energy meridians; shiatsu & self massage; and tai chi as yin moving meditation.)

70% experiential and 30% theory & discussion. Please bring an edition of Bernie Clark's The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga and Lao Tzu's, Tao Te Ching (S. Mitchell trans.) which we will use over the weekend.  Also bring a journal for reflective writing and note taking.  We'll meet Friday from 5:30-8:30 pm and all day Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 am-6:00 pm.  Certificates of completion will be awarded to those who attend the whole weekend.
